Message: If you had to use one word to describe the Bible what would it be? Truth? God? Light? Those are all good words, but what if I said, “Scandalous.” What if I were to suggest that the Bible contains truths so overlooked or ignored that to take them seriously today is shocking, even scandalous! Beginning this Sabbath we look at a series of scandalous messages presented in the small but potent book of James. Join us at 11am for Scandal #1.
Prayer: So many reasons to pray. So many reasons to praise. If you have something you want people to pray about, I promise you that you can find support at our weekly prayer meeting. We are praying! This past week we claimed these promises:
“No man can empty himself of self. We can only consent for Christ to accomplish the work. Then the language of the soul will be, Lord take my heart; for I cannot give it. It is Thy property. Keep it pure, for I cannot keep it for You. Save me in spite of myself, my weak, unchristlike self. Mold me, fashion me, raise me into a pure and holy atmosphere where the rich current of Your love can flow through my soul.” Christ Object Lessons, p.159
Naturally this quote reminded me of a song I learned during my colporteuring days:
“All who consecrate soul, body, and spirit to God will be constantly receiving a new endowment of physical and mental power. The inexhaustible supplies of heaven are at their command. Christ gives them the breath of His own spirit, the life of His own life. The Holy Spirit puts forth its highest energies to work in heart and mind. The grace of God enlarges and multiplies their faculties, and every perfection of the divine nature comes to their assistance in the work of saving souls. Through cooperation with Christ they are complete in Him, and in their human weakness they are enabled to do the deeds of Omnipotence.” Desire of Ages, p.827
How good and awesome are God’s exceedingly great and precious promises to us!
